Description:

Abstract:

Kinetic typography is a technology for animating texts through the temporal variation of position, size, orientation, color, and other typographic properties of the text. It is an appealing way to combine text content and visual appearance, hence increasing its potential expressivity. Kinetic typography is widely used in movie titles and advertising. It is capable to enhance the textual content or instead provide a complementary dimension of expressivity. In this talk I will propose possible ways to automatize the generation of text animation. Specifically, I will  describe the potentiality to combine kinetic typography data mining techniques for creative applications.

Bio:

Alessandro Valitutti is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Discovery Group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki, and HIIT. He is has a degree in physics from University of Naples, Italy, and a PhD in cognitive science and education from the University of Trento. In 2011 he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Computing of the Teesside University, UK. His research areas are computational creativity and computational humor generation.
