Description:

Title: Human and robot binaural sound source localization

Abstract:
With the growth of sound processing and intelligent systems technologies, it has become possible to endow robots and machines with human-like auditive capabilities. In this context, binaural audition emerges as a biologically-inspired and low-complexity sound processing domain, relying on signals captured by microphones emulating two ears. In this seminar, the focus will be on sound source localization. The human processing of sound waves, the acoustic localization cues and the approaches previously established to implement localization capabilities on machines will first be overviewed. Then a binaural localization system in real-world and robotic contexts will be proposed.
