Communality prevents shootings

24 Sep 2008 - Neighbourhood and local social networks can provide resources for preventing mass-violence. This is an outcome in a Finnish-American project that explores the interconnections between community-level social capital and mass violence. HIIT Senior Researcher Pekka Räsänen has been comparing local community and its recovery after a shooting incident in a school in Jokela, Finland, one year ago. The results are compared to parallel studies on shooting incidents in Virginia Tech and Omaha, USA.
