Events 2007

Mika Raento will defend his doctoral thesis Exploring Privacy for Ubiquitous Computing: Tools, Methods and Experiments in a public debate held in the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki, on 29.5.2007 at 12 o'clock noon. The formal opponent is Professor Kari-Jouko Räihä (University of Tampere) and the custos Professor Hannu Toivonen. The pre-examiners of the thesis were Dr.  Louise Barkhuus (Research Fellow, University of Glasgow, UK) and Dr. Markus Bylund (Researcher, Swedish Institute of Computer Science, Sweden).

The 2nd Helsinki-Rutgers Ph.D. Student Workshop on Spontaneous Networking will be held on Kumpula campus of University of Helsinki (Finland). The aim of the workshop is to provide Ph.D. students working in the area of mobile computing, distributed systems, and ad-hoc networking with a forum to present their research and discuss collaboration opportunities. The summer school is open for PhD students and post docs interested in algorithmic challenges raised by the demand for efficient management and analysis of various large-scale data sources. HIIT and TML researcher Kristiina Karvonen will defend her doctoral thesis Bridging the Gap between Human and Machine Trust on 25.5.2007 in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at TKK. The official opponent is Professor L. Jean Camp, Indiana University, USA. The custos is Professor Antti Ylä-Jääski.
