19 Jan 2009 - TV companies are finding new business models that work in P2P environment. Several major TV companies have released a range of hit TV series for freee at Hulu.com where a viewer sees ads with the series. In two years the business model has proved to be successful.

Jaiku code released under open source licence

14 Jan 2009 - Google will release the Jaiku code under the open source Apache license. Google is closing its own Jaiku development and allowing other organizations to pick up where the Google team left off. It is not clear if current users will be able to transfer their accounts.

The basic technology of Jaiku, an activity stream and presence sharing service, was developed in HIIT and the University of Helsinki Department of Computer Science in 2002-05. It was sold to Google in 2007.

Worktime allocation and bills before the end of the year

Please report all your working hours in Halli (TKK) no later than 2 January. Due to the start of a new year, the hours of 2008 cannot be approved later than 2 January.

Please send also all the bills to the administration before 2 January 2009.

Academy professor Heikki Mannila appointed new HIIT director

The Council of the Helsinki University of Technology TKK and the rector of the University of Helsinki have appointed Academy Professor Heikki Mannila to a three-year term as the new director of the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT.
