8 Jan 2007 - TKK has signed a contract for renting 1520 m2 space in Pilotti building in the Spektri business park next to Otaniemi. At the same time, TKK also signed a contract for transfering the rental agreement of the High Tech Center space in Ruoholahti. Thus the Ruoholahti unit will move to Otaniemi by April 15, 2007.

1 Jan 2007 - Professor, Dr.Sc. Marko Turpeinen (b. 1968) has been nominated as a Principal Scientist at HIIT for 1.1.2007-31.12.2011. He will work as the Programme Director of the Network Society research programme, sharing his time between HIIT and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, where he is a Professor of Media Technology.

18 Dec 2006 - HIIT researcher Evimaria Terzi defended her doctoral thesis Problems and Algorithms for Sequence Segmentations on 18 December 2006 at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki. The opponent was Professor Dimitris Achlioptas, UC Santa Cruz, and custos was Professor Esko Ukkonen.

14 Dec 2006 - HIIT researcher Tommi Ilmonen defended his doctoral thesis Tools and Experiments in Multimodal Interaction on 14 December 2006 at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Helsinki University of Technology. His opponent was professor Michael Cohen, Computer Arts Lab, University of Aizu, Japan and the supervisor was Professor Tapio Takala.

12 Dec 2006 - Finnish Centre of Excellence for Algorithmic Data Analysis Research (Algodan) is one of the 18 research groups selected by the Academy of Finland to the national centre-of-excellence programme for 2008 - 2013. HIIT/Kumpula is the main site of activity of the CoE. Professor Esko Ukkonen is the director and Academy Professor Heikki Mannila the vice-director of Algodan.
