The first meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board of HIIT was held on 16. and 17.10.2003 in the HIIT BRU premises in the University of Helsinki CS Department site in Vallila, Helsinki, and in HIIT ARU premises at the High Tech Center Helsinki, 6th floor.

The objective of the meeting was to present HIIT's longer-term plans and to provide a forum for their critical evaluation.

10.12.2001: The Basic Research Unit of HIIT organised jointly with the Laboratory of Theoretical Computer Science of HUT a seminar on Energy-Constrained Computation. Speakers included Heikki Mannila (HIIT/BRU), Markku Åberg (VTT), Patrik Floréen (UH) and Pekka Orponen (HUT).

17.9.2002: HIIT arranged a seminar describing its planned research portfolio for 2003, prepared forthe coming national and European calls.

4.-7.6.2002: The second HIIT-UCB Summer School was held in University of California at Berkeley, with professors Kimmo Raatikainen and Randy Katz chairing the event.

23.10.2003: The SIMS-BCIS-HIIT Seminar on Information Society Research was held in Berkeley, California. The seminar was co-sponsored by the School of Information Management and Systems, the Berkeley Center for the Information Society, and the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology. Speakers included Prof. Hal Varian, Prof. Annalee Saxenian, and Prof. Marc Davis from UCB; Dr. Pekka Himanen from BCIS and HIIT; and Prof.

15.-17.11.2004: The second meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board of HIIT was held in Kumpula and Ruoholahti.

11.11.2004: OpenMind seminar 2004 2004 at Tampere. HIIT, Tekes and COSS organised a one-day seminar of open source and open content.
