23.6.2004: Wireless Festival CELTIC project receives TEKES funding

The National Technology Agency TEKES awarded first-year funding for the project E!3187 CELTIC Db - Wireless Woodstock Services in Finland. Professor Martti Mäntylä will lead the project which forms a part of the international Wireless Festival Eureka/CELTIC project led by Ericsson Research, Sweden. TeliaSonera Finland also participates in the project that focuses on user-centric, economic, and technical issues related to providing digital services tailored for large-scale events.

8.6.2004: Dynamos TEKES project funded

The National Technology Agency (TEKES) decided to fund the project Dynamos: Dynamic Composition and Sharing of Context-aware Mobile Services coordinated by VTT Information Technology. HIIT's Mobile Computing Group participates in the project. The industrial partners include ICT Turku, Suunto and TeliaSonera Finland. Professor Kimmo Raatikainen leads HIIT's part of the work.

25.3.2004: Muppet project receives first-year funding from TEKES

The National Technology Agency TEKES awarded first-year funding for the project Muppet: Managing Privacy and Trust in P2P Communication. Professor Martti Mäntylä will lead the project. Its industrial partners are Nokia, Ericsson, Finnish Broadcasting Corporation and Leiki Oy. The project will focus in trust and reputation management especially in mobile P2P systems.

21.-23.1.2004: ALVIS EU project kick-off

The kick-off meeting of the project ALVIS: Superpeer Semantic Search Engine was held in Paris. The 3-year project is funded by the European Union in the IST priority the 6th Framework Program; it was originally submitted in the first call of the IST priority. The project belongs to the Future Search cluster of projects, all aimed at building a next-generation Internet search engine. HIIT coordinates the joint research effort involving nine partners from Europe and also Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. ALVIS is led by professor Henry Tirri.

9.12.2002: Anu Kankainen's doctoral dissertation

Anu Kankainen, HIIT researcher in the Between project, defended successfully her doctoral thesis Thinking Model and Tools for Understanding User Experience Related to Information Appliance Product Concepts in a public defence at the Helsinki University of Technology. Her doctorate is the first earned from work largely conducted at HIIT.
