Millions of people are spending real money on virtual clothes in online hangouts, digital items in multiplayer games and presents for their friends in social networking sites. This digitalisation of consumption is an inherent consequence of the increasing involvement of communication technology in everyday social activities, says Helsinki Insititute for Information Technology HIIT Researcher Vili Lehdonvirta. Lehdonvirta's thesis "Virtual Consumption" will be examined on 30 October at Turku School of Economics, Finland.

Paljon tietokonepelejä pelaavien suomalaisten keskuudessa pelien lataaminen verkosta omalle koneelle on yleistä. Tarjolla on nykyisin suuri määrä sekä maksullisia että maksuttomia pelejä, eivätkä kaikki lataa maksullisia pelejä lainkaan. Noin 40% Tampereen yliopiston ja Tietotekniikan tutkimuslaitos HIIT:n yhteistutkimukseen vastanneista kuitenkin käyttää ainakin jonkin verran rahaa ladattaviin peleihin.
HIIT Spektri's and Otaniemi's telephone numbers to change 2 November 2009

16 Oct 2009 - Due to Helsinki University of Technology becoming part of Aalto University at the beginning of next year, TKK phone numbers will change before the turn of the year. In HIIT, this means that landline numbers to HIIT Spektri and HIIT Otaniemi as well as to all researchers and other staff at these sites change.
